AC Components Most Likely to Fail
Our staff of experts can spot A/C troubles quickly using their keen eye for visual defects and mechanical skills to repair your vehicle’s AC. We know what to look for and understand the common problems that plague your car’s AC. Here are some issues we may encounter and need to repair:
Condenser is broken or clogged. The condenser is a target for road debris and is located at the front of most vehicles between the grate and radiator. The function of a condenser is to re-cool hot refrigerant once compressed. This process happens with airflow through the front of your vehicle when you drive. If the condenser is blocked, it’ll be unable to cool the refrigerant, and the vehicle will continue to operate with hot refrigerant. The result is hot air expelling into the cabin.
When a block is not the reason, the condenser may need replacing. Debris from the road can puncture the condenser by passing through the grill causing condenser failure.
Electrical issues are the most difficult issues to diagnose for a malfunctioning A/C system. We perform a visual inspection for broken or frayed wires. If wires are damaged, we repair the wires with electrical tape or wire replacement.
Faulty cooling fans will not cool the condenser causing the vehicle to emit hot air. We will check blown fuses and other electrical issues. We will also visually inspect the fan to notice cracks requiring a cooling fan replacement.
The compressor keeps your AC moving. When a compressor is not working properly, the refrigerant cannot circulate through the system. The result is hot air blowing into the vehicle. Newer vehicles avoid a compressor issue by keeping the condenser active under the defrost setting. If the fan is operating, something is shutting down the cooling mechanism causing hot air to blow when your AC turns on.
Turn your auto AC on to full blast for a few minutes every few weeks to keep the compressor operational and prolong its life.
